Plato And The Log

It has been said that a university is Plato sitting on one end of a log and a student on the other. But what if the student has a laptop? And what if Plato is a card carrying member of the teachers union? And has the log been certified as being from a non-endangered species of tree?

 

 

Ah then, said Plato, looking firm

Decline the verb to be

The student, puzzled, looked about

But nowhere did he see

A way around the question that

His tutor thus had posed

For he could answer not because

His laptop it was closed

For union rules required both

Of them to idly sit

‘Twas clear that both infinitives

And logs were meant to split
