Who’s Got My Stash?

The United States is some 14 trillion dollars in debt and has lost its AAA bond rating, meaning we will all pay higher interest rates on everything. Our debt is so large as to be unpayable, and if our creditors ever demanded instant payment we would have to declare bankruptcy. And all because we have drifted down the path to socialism for the last seventy years, and now we have reached the point all socialist countries reach when the socialist politicians run out of other peoples’ money. I found Uncle Sam sitting on a curb a few days ago, and asked him why he looked so glum. He said it looked like he would soon be broke unless the politicians stopped spending money he didn’t have. I asked what happened to all the money he used to have, and he said somebody stole his stash.

I am not poor, I’m not, he cried, that’s all a dirty lie

It’s just that right now all my money’s gone

He sobbed a bit and wiped his eyes and gave a weary sigh

And said he now had nothing left to pawn

I gave so much to others when they needed it the most

For many years I kept the world from harm

When famine came or earthquakes struck, I do not like to boast

I picked them up and offered my right arm

At home I tried to help the poor and help them make the climb

But somehow things just went from bad to worse

And now I’m sitting on a curb flat broke without a dime

And sobbing uncontrollably in verse

Bond Rating

Moody’s and Standard and Poor’s have threatened to downgrade the United States’ bond rating if the mounting debt crisis doesn’t get solved. But it doesn’t look like Obama and the Dems want it solved, believing, as they do, that they and the lickspittle media can blame it all on the Republicans. And they may be right. I ran into my old friend Montmorency, who explained why he and other liberals had no fear of a downgraded bond rating.

You see, he said with knowing look

The game is going by the book

The game is playing out just like we planned

Bond ratings now are mostly bunk

Who cares if US bonds are junk

What matters is the market now at hand

We won in eight by making change

Our benchmark, and it’s passing strange

How smart folks like yourself just cannot see

That change to us means change writ large

And that’s why now that we’re in charge

We need to wreck the whole economy

For only then can hope appear

As things progress from dark to drear

And people turn to us to rescue lives

We know to get to that low point

We have to wreck the whole darn joint

And so we cheer as the bond market dives

He whistled as he walked away

Convinced that his kind ruled the day

And that they’d change the country now for good

But people know when they’ve been had

And we’ll fight back when fighting mad

That’s something Lefties never understood

The End Of The Day, Or Just The End?

This is the first year Social Security has paid out more than it has taken in, a development the experts said would be delayed many years. But it is here. The soft underbelly of Europe, Greece, Spain, Portugal and Ireland, are beset with debt crises that threaten the very existence of the Eurozone. Rapidly mounting and unsustainable debt in the United States is about to bring the entire world economy crashing down in smoking ruins. And the answer? Borrow more money. And so it goes, and so we go, merrily over the cliff, unless we do something about it, starting in November 2010.

At dawn, the night sky painted pink

With rose and amber hue

The Founding Fathers had to think

The morning loved us too

The rising sun climbed in the sky

Too bright for us to view

We strode the world and we knew why

The noontime loved us too

Now sunset draws the curtain low

And sky turns dusk from blue

And sadly full well do I know

The evening saddens too

The risen sun is setting now

Some say our course is run

But patriots refuse to bow

To Diktats from the One

We’ll fly our banner high again

The lefty cretins gone

We’ll take our country back and then

A glorious new dawn

Beware Of Greeks Bearing Gifts

Greece has taken advantage of its membership in the European Union to borrow heavily to expand its public spending, thus increasing its debt to unsustainable levels, all the while concealing from the EU inspectors the real condition of the Greek economy. The EU (read France and Germany) have now said no more bailouts, so the government has promised to cut spending, meaning lopping people off the public payroll. This, of course, has occasioned rioting in Athens and other cities, as people can’t understand why the gravy train cannot continue forever. Is Greece the canary in the coal mine? How far behind Greece is Italy and Spain? How far behind Greece is the United States in its year long spiral under the Obama administration into unsustainable debt?

Beware of Greeks bearing gifts

Beware of gifts baring Greeks

Have fun while the rising tide lifts

Later cry when your rising boat leaks

The socialist gift’s a charade

Borrowed money can last for a while

But eventually the piper is paid

And the bubbly wine turns into bile

We speak of canaries in mines

We parse what the wise men have said

We listen to wind in the pines

No matter, the canary is dead
