More Nursery Rhymes

My six year old neighbor girls were playing hopscotch again today. You wouldn’t think six year olds would be on top of things, but they are. They even know who Kathleen Sebelius is, though I believe they felt a little sorry for her, having to tell Congress why the rollout didn’t work. Strangely enough, they also heard of Jay Carney, the president’s press secretary, and they knew all about the Democrat controlled Senate voting to change the rules and abolish the filibuster. Their little voices carried far as they sang:

Hickory dickory dock
Sebelius ran out the clock
October the one
The rollout not done
She’s gone soon and that is a lock

Carney Blarney pudding and pie
Senate vote won’t make him cry
When the press asked him today
Carney Blarney ran away

Thanksgiving 2013

The same poem, but different meter.

Thanksgiving has lost its original meaning. Thanksgiving was once a day for thanking God for the bountiful harvest that allowed the farmer and his family to have enough to eat during the harsh winter to come, but Thanksgiving now means football and turkey, cranberries and pumpkin pie. Not that there’s anything wrong with football and pumpkin pie, especially in iambic pentameter.

And so we meet again this time of year
To feast on cole slaw, stuffing and the rest
Accompanied by turkey, wine and beer
And saving for the last the very best
The pie and hot, strong coffee, double treat
Make all of us forget Thanksgiving Day
Was once a day before men sat to eat
They thanked the Lord and grateful kneeled to pray
And praised the Lord for summer’s bountied grace
For winter winds were surely bound to come
That only God sent crops could truly face
When winter’s hard times came for more than some
Those days are past, we live now at our ease
With winter’s winds receding back in time
We think not of those times and pass the peas
Forgetting times that once were ice and rime

Nursery Rhyme

What a mess. Obamacare has everyone turning against him, even the lapdog press, and so, to distract the low information voters, Obama tears up ten years of work by canceling sanctions on Iran just as they were beginning to hurt. What a man. I chanced to overhear a couple of six year old neighbor girls reciting nursery rhymes while playing hopscotch. My favorite was Mary Had A Little Lamb. The girls sang

Barry had a little lamb
Who cried and said goodbye
For everywhere that Barry went
The lamb was sure to die

Funny how even six year olds can see what’s happening. Unfortunately the girls were called in to lunch so I never got to hear what they thought of Hillary.

Euripides

Henry Chao, the deputy chief information officer for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, was asked by Congressman Cory Gardner, R-Colo, why the Obamacare rollout was such a disaster. Chao replied that it was because much of it had not yet been built. Imagine that. Three years and 600 million dollars later much of the website had not yet been built. Was the waste of time and money because the contract was given to a friend of Michelle Obama? Nah, that couldn’t be it. Could it be because the Canadian outfit they gave the contract to had no experience designing complicated websites? Nah. The Obama administration had given billion dollar contracts out to friends before and it turned out all right. Remember Solyndra, who took their half billion dollars and promptly declared bankruptcy? How much of that do you think wound its way back to the proper hands? And the Chicago battery company that did the same thing? And you wonder where the Democrat National Committee gets the money to steal elections? And these people want to run one sixth of the country’s economy? But it’s all coming apart, isn’t it?

Whom the gods wish to destroy they first make mad. – Euripides

Just tell me please
Euripides
Why such as these
Still live and get to linger
I’ll not be coy
‘Twould give such joy
Should gods destroy
And give them all the finger

The Magic Lamp

Saudi Arabia has gotten so disgusted with the incompetent Obama that they recognize they can no longer depend on the United States to protect them, so they have bought nuclear weapons from Pakistan. Sources say the nukes are already built and just waiting for Saudi Arabia to give the word to ship them. This is but the first step in the nuking up of the Middle East in view of Iran’s determination to acquire nuclear weapons. Israel is already nuked up, and the rest will follow, the Gulf States, Egypt, Syria, and Turkey if they haven’t already quietly done so. Thanks to Obama, the non-proliferation treaty is effectively dead, and the most unstable region on the face of the Earth will soon have nuclear tipped missiles aimed at each other. Thanks, Barry.

Pakistan has rubbed the magic lamp
Releasing to the detriment of all
A djinn who is about to put his stamp
On every single fearsome fireball
The Saudis think they’re safe by nuking up
And truth to tell they very well may be
But very soon the runneth over cup
Will glaze the sands from Gulf to the Red Sea
The shoreline of the Med will wither, die
And states that once were there will be no more
The djinn now smiles for he knows by and bye
Are different words but tell just what’s in store

GoodbyeTo All That

Obama has made a secret deal with Iran, throwing the Israelis out into the snow to fend for themselves. In view of Iran’s oft stated intention to nuke Tel Aviv and destroy the state of Israel as soon as they have nuclear weapons, it is inconceivable that Israel will stand idly by and allow Iran and Obama to kill them all. Israel will strike first and with nuclear weapons, and what happens next is open to conjecture. We live in pre-war times, and, as in previous pre-war times, our leaders vainly seek peace by accommodation and surrender. But accommodation and surrender does not bring peace, it brings war. And the coming nuclear war in the Middle East may not be contained to the region of the Middle East, any more than the attack on Poland in 1939 could be contained to the Baltic or the incident at the Marco Polo bridge contained to China. And if it is not contained, the world may suffer such damage as to revert to the pre-industrial age, and the long climb back may not be so easily accomplished.

And so we sadly say goodbye
And young men once again must march
Beneath the missile streaked blue sky
Parabolas a perfect arch
The flashes of a million suns
Light scenes of darkness and despair
The way of war now not with guns
But unleashed hydrogen stripped bare
In 1914 it began
The march to death of all that was
The power wrought by modern man
Will be the last he ever does
As back the way the species came
Reduced to poverty and strife
And all because we thought the game
Had naught to do with death and life

The Big Lie

Obamacare has been one big lie from the start. It was never designed to provide quality affordable health care, it was designed to extend the power of the radical left wing Marxist government we now have. And because it was a lie from the start, President Obama is compelled to lie constantly. He said repeatedly that if you liked your current insurance you could keep it. That was a lie. You can’t keep it. You can’t keep your doctor either, even though Obama has repeatedly insisted that you can. Obama believes that if he tells the same lie over and over we will believe it. And maybe he’s right. After all, he was reelected by people who will believe anything.

The fashioning of small deceits
Requires only small conceits
And if successful then one tries
To get away with bigger lies
As one succeeds and doing well
Then on to larger lies to tell
Until the liar then believes
And is himself that he deceives
By then of course it’s much too late
The lies by now have sealed our fate
We’re left with but a vacant stare
To celebrate Obamacare

Silent Sound

Healthy young people will not enroll in ObamaCare nor will the middle class pay for the privilege of subsidizing those who cannot get health insurance, either by being sick and hurt or because they are on welfare. They know the current system allows those who are uninsured to get quality health care simply by going to the nearest hospital emergency room. They also know Obamacare is not about health care, but about power.

The uninsured, the hurt and sick
Will sign up, sure, and sign up quick
The healthy young will turn away
The middle class will just not pay
The union members will be sore
But they were warned what was in store
A hundred million uninsured
As companies clear off the board
All employees who in the past
Had insurance they thought would last
But those who think death spirals end
Had better think again, my friend
The Left will never let this go
Come squalls and earthquakes, rain or snow
The Left cares not for health care costs
They only care that who gets bossed
Obeys commands from Left elites
Who just shrug off the rare defeats
And press ahead despite the hurt
Of common folk ground in the dirt
They care not screams of rage abound
To them a scream is silent sound

How Did It Go So Wrong?

President Obama tearfully ruminates on the unfailing doctrine of the unintended consequence.

I often wonder why the heck
I put up with this life
Reduced like this, a hopeless wreck
Two children and a wife
Yes being president is nice
That Air Force One is neat
It costs a lot but worth the price
I get to choose my seat
My golf game’s coming right along
I still have great endurance
But somehow ‘Bamacare went wrong
They’ve canceled my insurance
