The Ghosts At Number 10

The French and Germans thought they had a deal to save the euro and the Eurozone from imminent collapse, a scheme that would have punished Britain. But somehow, from somewhere, Prime Minister Cameron refused to knuckle under to EU pressure. The British veto scuttled the scheme, and the French and Germans are left with, as the British say, a sticky wicket. But where did Cameron find the backbone to stand up for his country, something a British Prime Minister hasn’t done in quite some time. One wonders if ghosts wander Number 10 Downing Street, and perhaps paid Cameron a visit.

It’s late at night, and Cameron

Knows not quite what to do

The office is in darkness, quiet reigns

When there appears a wraith, but who

The figure seems at once

To be of someone wracked with ancient pains

Palmerston? Disraeli? Baldwin?

Grenville, Peel or Pitt?

The figure slowly shuffled ‘cross the floor

As Cameron sat spellbound

The dim figure slowly smiled

And said it was a pleasure sir and more

To meet one in this Office who

Had cast iron for a spine

Who thought of country first, and not his chance

Of winning re-election

Or of what others might think

Who determined what is right and took his stance

Who are you sir, the PM said

His voice quite soft and low

The figure straightened up and shook his head

I’m all of us, I’m Churchill

Gladstone, Walpole, North and George

We’re all still quite alive, though some think dead

We watch over this blessed land

Where freedom and the law

Is what we had to all the world to give

And now you’ve done quite right my boy

The Germans and the Frogs

Shall never conquer England while we live

Blond Man’s Buff

The Arab and Iranian jihadists believe we are too weak to resist the infallible will of Allah, and we will soon be conquered by an irresistible Islam, to live our lives as slaves in what was once our own countries. They mistake our reluctance to kill them en masse as weakness, instead of a memory of the horrors of the European 20th century. They do not understand that the blond men of the North have B-52s, affectionately known by their crews as Buffs, an acronym for a series of words that cannot be printed in a family blog, but it begins Big Ugly Fat F…s. But there will come a time when enough is enough, and the B-52s will fly.

They kill our guys with IEDs

They violate our embassies

Their proxies kill and maim us right on cue

They scream the bomb will kill the Jews

And kill us too if we should choose

To look askance at anything they do

They hate us as the infidel

And follow what their mullahs tell

That Christians and the Jews must all be killed

There comes a time when ‘nough’s enough

And overhead’s a big, fat Buff

And when it starts that thunder can’t be stilled

They think we’re weak and in a sense

We are, but in the present tense

And soon we’ll have some iron in the White House

And then we’ll see just who’s afraid

When we pick up a can of Raid

And the whole damned religion we delouse

The Congregant

Environmentalism is a religion, Gaia is its goddess, and environmentalists are its congregants. As such they are accorded the religious freedom to persuade the rest of us to join them in their beliefs, but they have gone far beyond that. The United States is supposed to profess a separation of Church and State, but the Church of Gaia has taken over the Democrat party, and its catechism and article of faith have replaced the Constitution as the law of the land. An absolute belief in global warming, no drilling of oil or gas, clean air and clean water regulations so stringent they cripple business, no logging, no nuclear power, no building dams, no irrigating farmland, and many other restrictions the Democrats have happily loaded onto the body politic the better to strangle it. I talked to a Gaia congregant recently, and he seemed a reasonable fellow. He said:

I don’t believe in man-made gods

Who live where woodbines twine

Just think of it, what are the odds

That each could be Divine

No, there is but one God for me

And Gaia is Her name

It pains me much that you can’t see

That you are much to blame

For everything that isn’t fair

From fracking fossil fuels

And putting carbon in the air

Replacing horse and mules

With horrid greenhouse spewing gas

From engines no one needs

The Earth is dying and alas

She cries but no one heeds

The world was far a better place

When man intruded not

And time sped at a slower pace

As Gaia might allot

I hope and pray that you might well

Believe in Gaia God

I know that that is one tough sell

Like windmills on Cape Cod

But drilling oil and fracking gas

Will kill us all in time

As global warming comes to pass

And Al Gore notes your crime

Boadicea

The European Union is in trouble, and in an attempt to save it, France and Germany produced a scheme that was rejected by several EU members, Britain included. It seems the British are finally getting their backs up about the steady erosion of British sovereignty. Maybe they remember some of their history after all. While strolling through the park in London I spied a tiny, flamboyantly dressed woman firing up the crowd.

“The German shall not rule this land!”

Thus Boadicea spake

And withal gathered up her arms

For much there was at stake

“The Roman fled before my sword!”

She cried and raised the flag

“We shall not yield our future for

An empty euro bag!”

So saying she bestrode her horse

The Brusselsmen to slay

And ran them through with tempered steel

And thusly saved the day

“For Britain bows to no man’s threat!”

She cried, “The Zone be damned!

And let those Eurocrats right up

Their fundaments be jammed!”

A Carbon-free House

The pointyheads in Brussels have unveiled a scheme for an airtight, carbon free house, which they intend to foist on the public with the demand that all new houses must be built carbon free and all existing houses must be retrofitted to be carbon free, and if not then the builder or the homeowner must pay a hefty tax, the money going to subsidize those who comply with the carbon free rule. Looks to me like a back door cap and trade scheme, but would an airtight house have a back door?

Ah here we are, the agent said, right off this cul-de-sac

A handsome piece of work now don’t you think

It’s called a zero carbon house, and all that it may lack

Is space to store your carbonated drink

Air handling is our specialty in which we take great pride

It moves air in and then it moves air out

But since no CO2’s allowed you’ll have to go outside

To breathe in case a carbon cop’s about

You’ll note construction’s free of wood, and free of nails as well

For wood dates from the carboniferous time

And nails are made of carbon steel and we intend to sell

A house that’s made to last in any clime

The outhouse too includes the best in sanitary means

Please note the handsome rose lined flagstone path

It’s necessary it be placed outdoors behind these screens

For there’s no paper tissue in your bath

The house is built of fired clay, no charcoal in the kiln

The joists, the studs, electric and the heat

And if you’re worried ‘bout the cost for you there is no bill

We’re taxing all your neighbors on the street

Chicken Fat

The Obama administration, either out of being beholden to the environmentalists or out of the simple desire to cripple our military, has ordered the Navy to conduct this year’s maneuvers with all ships using fuel made from chicken fat recovered from deep fryers. And Obama forced the Navy to buy 450,000 gallons of gas at $16 a gallon from a green firm tied to Nancy Pelosi, who stands to make a lot of money from the deal. Just more green scams, like windmills and solar panels. Anything to keep the United States from drilling for its own oil and gas, the better to keep us in thrall to the Arab Middle East, and Obama’s pals. He did not kiss the ring of the Saudi king for nothing. The question is, when will this environmental insanity end?

Chicken fat now fuels our ships

Our planes and trucks and tanks

And pretty soon Obama will

Have all just shooting blanks

And stealthy drones will soon be made

From cut up chicken parts

And fueled by methane that we get

From harnessed chicken farts

The possibilities are such

As well to blow the mind

A chicken coop in every yard

Advancing chickenkind

A hundred billion chickens

Giving all for Uncle Sam

So Dems can close down nukes and oil

And we won’t give a damn

For we’ll be independent

Of the Saudis and their ilk

When we all parade down Broadway

With our tanks that run on milk

A Christmas Faith

A CHRISTMAS FAITH

Bound by Reason, man sees the stars but touches them not; his instruments measure their brightness and composition, but knowing the brightness and composition of a star brings us no closer to an understanding of what they are and who made them. To those of Reason, the stars are inanimate balls of fire born at the singularity; to those of faith, the stars are the eyes of God.

In the deep dark, in the vastness of the plain

The fires gleamed, winking clear and bright

In the wild field where a lion’s cubs had lain

A family band was settled for the night

What are those lights there, a tiny voice was heard

Why they are sparks, son, from fires keeping warm

Why do they fly, like a tiny little bird

They fly to keep you well and safe from harm

Where do they go, for I see them climb the sky

Do they join the stars that I see far above

They do, for the sparks are the life that will not die

As we are the fire, and the stars that shine their love

Why are stars love, do they love us even though

We are here far away, where they surely cannot see

The stars are the eyes, son, of a God we cannot know

And so He sees the world and you and me

He sees us and loves us, and guides us in our ways

He gives us his love and asks nothing in return

He asks not for wealth nor for fame or hollow praise

He asks only that our fires burn

I see, said the child, both the fire and the sky

Are gifts to us from God, but God is where

He lives in our hearts, son, and will ‘til day we die

We only need to know that He is there

MERRY CHRISTMAS

From The Mountaintops

A feckless foreign policy carries with it the certainty of death when facing a mortal enemy intent on killing you, and the foreign policy of the Obama administration is feckless in the extreme. Obama refuses to stand up for any principle whatever when it comes to our enemies, smiling and turning the other cheek as they kill us, but is hell on wheels against our friends and allies, demanding that Israel surrender to the Palestinians on every conceivable demand the Palestinians may make. Mubarak and Khadaffi were not exactly friends and allies, but they were not our enemies either, and Obama removed them from office and we now have radical Islamists in charge of Egypt and Libya, men who are determined to destroy the West and Israel. It was said of the Romans that they created a desert and called it peace. Obama calls it peace and creates a desert.

Come sing it from the mountaintops

From valleys, hills and dales

The world is skimming o’er the waves

Brisk winds now fill our sails

Each nation state sleeps well at peace

With neighbors whom they love

And daily climb the ziggurat

To free the pure white dove

Oh much is owed to great Hussein

The leader of the pack

The ship is running with the wind

No need there is to tack

For things are shining bright at noon

No danger lies ahead

Dark clouds on the horizon are

Warm rain, not things to dread

And yet the ocean leaps and swells

The dark clouds grow in size

And darkness slowly turns the noon

To night with coal black skies

That flash with fire of the gods

That cause the earth to burn

And children cry with hunger

And there’s death at every turn

Come sing it from the mountaintops

From valleys, hills and dales

That fecklessness leads but to war

And death now fills our sails

Turn The Other Cheek

The foreign policy of the Obama administration is clearly to turn the other cheek. The Iranians kill our soldiers and there is no retaliation; the Iranians boast that when they get the bomb they will incinerate every Jew in Israel, and Obama claims the Mullahs are our friends; the Iranians sent a hit team to DC to assassinate the Saudi ambassador and we shrug it off because we don’t want to offend the people who are determined to kill us. We lose a super secret drone in eastern Iran and Obama refuses to allow the military to destroy it so that its invaluable secrets do not fall into the hands of the Iranians, and through them the Chinese and Russians. The reason for the Obama refusal is because he was afraid the Iranians would consider it an act of war. But the Iranians declared war on us 32 years ago, in 1979, and we continue to turn the cheek.

Be peaceable, my children

And turn the other cheek

Will only get you slapped again

And scorned for being weak

Yes death soon comes to he who waits

For peace to come from high

And offers cheeks instead of fists

To killers drawing nigh

We Got Worries

The Middle East is entering a new and dangerous phase, as violence erupts anew between Sunni and Shi’a, Iran and Saudi Arabia, Syria and Turkey, with Egypt, potentially the most powerful of the Arab states, sitting on the sidelines until the Arab Brotherhood assumes full control. The West in general and the United States in particular, have not a clue how to go about resolving these worries and troubles.

Trouble and worry, worry and trouble

Nervousness mounts as uncertainties double

The bright Arab Spring is now turned to drab Fall

As over the region there hovers a pall

The clouds that were gray are now deepest of black

As Sunni and Shi’a gird for the attack

The hatred is not from the Koran each reads

Though hatred is surely what springs from it’s seeds

It’s power each seeks over others to rule

That leads to the smothering brothering duel

Israelis are sanding the decks as we speak

And blowing their matches, the flag at the peak

Assad swings the axe but continues to slip

As Hamas creeps quietly off to the Strip

Yes something is coming, it is felt in the air

And when sand turns to glass I for one will not care
