Do Only The Good Die Young?

It is often said that only the good die young, but I don’t think that’s true. I never intentionally hurt anyone in my entire life, and I’m as old as dirt and still kicking. My life abounds in good works. When I was a boy scout I helped old ladies across the street, even when they didn’t want to go. So I reject the notion that we good guys are necessarily, by providential decree, doomed to an early departure time.

The flower strewn Elysian fields

Where heroes go to play

Seem not to have the yearly yields

They had once in their day

The fields are bare, the flowers gone

Soft winds no longer blow

No longer birds announce the dawn

No more the golden glow

That once enrapt the hero’s face

That maidens found so pure

Is gone for good, and now the race

Is for the old, for sure

Divided Nation

Hank Williams Jr. has been fired by ESPN for words he used on another television show. Hank says he wasn’t fired, he quit. The Obama media seizes on even tangential references to demonize the knuckle dragging right. Did Hank Williams Jr call Obama Hitler? No he didn’t. But he used the word Hitler in the same group of sentences in which he used the word Obama, and so that was enough. It matters not that the Left routinely called President G. W. Bush Hitler. That’s allowable, because everyone knows it was the truth. I asked a liberal friend if Obama was Hitler, and he replied indignantly.

He ain’t no Hitler, ain’t no fuhrer

O’s a healer, the country’s curer

A sainted man, he ain’t no Stalin

Can’t say as much for Sarah Palin

He’s not Pol Pot, nor any other

Of guys like that, he’s just a brother

Who takes care of his friends and cronies

Not like them other Repub phonies

No he ain’t Hitler, but in a while

Next term I ‘spect you all to Heil

The Star Chamber

Anwar al-Awlaki is now counted among the dead. Awlaki, an American citizen, took up arms against his country from Yemen, and was responsible for the deaths of American citizens in his capacity as al-Qaeda leader. It now transpires that his death was decreed by a secret US government committee that was not authorized by Congress, and that answers, apparently, to no one. There are those who now argue that while killing Awlaki was a good thing, the manner of how the decision to kill him was arrived at was not a good thing, that unaccountable Star Chambers inevitably turn out to be captured by those who use the secret power to imprison or kill against political opponents at home, as happened with the original Star Chamber in England in the seventeenth century. So corrupt did the English Star Chamber become that it resulted in civil war and the only dictator England ever had, Oliver Cromwell. It has been said that good intentions lead inevitably to the grave. Whatever the good intentions of the current American Star Chamber, if allowed to continue it will inevitably lead to darkness.

They meet in darkness, clothed in black

They speak in whispers, back to back

They write in disappearing ink

We know not what our lords may think

The shades are down, the curtains drawn

Full night it is, erase the dawn

The country slides into the dark

Where none can hear the mad dogs bark

They think they’ve but turned down the wick

When darkness comes, it comes right quick

Khadaffi

Moammar Khadaffi was killed yesterday by an American drone that fired a Hellfire missile into a convoy carrying Khadaffi to an urgent appointment with death. The order to go ahead with the mission was given by President Obama. Where the President of the United States got the authority to kill foreign leaders, no matter how much they deserved killing, is a question. I have no doubt that when others get drones and Hellfires we will see attacks on convoys carrying presidents of the United States on trips to Kansas. But at least now we no longer have to wonder which spelling to use for Khadaffi. Khaddafi, Khadaffi, Q’adafi, Quadaffi – If a man’s name lives after him, the question is, which one will it be?

So now it’s done

Thanks to The One

Khadaffi he is dead

No more to toil

At drilling oil

But this much can be said

He had his fame

And now his name

For ages will be belled

His name ring free

Through history

No matter how it’s spelled

Femme Fatale

Femme Fatales have been with us forever. Cleopatra, Helen of Troy, Nelson’s Lady Hamilton, Kennedy’s Judith Exner, to name but a few. What is it about certain women that can turn a powerful man to jelly just by a look, a glance, a smile?

Who is she, this woman

Whose eyes and dark locks

Can seize a man’s senses

With passion that mocks

The nature of reason

Of good common sense

With fantasy’s flaming

Scenes in present tense

They say that she knows not

Her fatal effects

She smiles for she knows

That it’s all in her sex

A smile at a man

A quick certain glance

Will make him a child

Who longs for the dance

The Red And The Black

The greatest disaster of the Twentieth Century was World War 1, a war that saw entire generations of young men die for no discernible reason, a war that saw the end of European civilization and the end of five empires, a war that saw the rise of Hitler and Stalin, and the bloodbath of World War 2, from which the world has not as yet recovered. Yet it is always fascinating to wonder what would have happened had Hitler won his war against Stalin. What we do know is that millions of men died for two of the worst evils ever to befall humanity, Communism and Naziism.

Still dark on the morning of 22 June

The guns lit the sky with false dawn

And men in feldgrau singing gaily marched east

As the black met the red daggers drawn

They died by the millions for what you may ask

Beyond the sheer will of the men

Who set them afoot in the land of the dead

And would, if we let them, again

The red and the black both are dead and are gone

No memories are there for the young

The nations they died for are dim in the mists

And only the sad songs are sung

It’s A Changeling World

In Berkeley, California, a married lesbian couple was allowed to adopt a two year old baby boy named Thomas. And now, at the age of eight, they are turning Thomas into a girl named Tammy by hormone blocking treatment, thus preventing him from going through puberty as a boy. Tammy now says he has always wanted to be a girl, but others are outraged that the lesbians have taken it upon themselves to force their own male-hatred views on an innocent eight year old boy. But what if Thomas really and truly wants to be a girl? Not that I think for a moment that he would have absent brainwashing from his lesbian adoptive mothers, but just for fun, what if he really wants to be a girl? Haven’t we all been taught that we can be anything we want to be? Isn’t that the American dream?

So what if now I want to be

A girl with shiny curls

What’s wrong with little boys who see

Themselves as little girls

If we can be what e’er we like

Why limit it to sex

Why not an eagle or a shrike

Who’s God to stack the decks?

If changes are to come our way

Then some would opt for show

A lion or a brilliant ray

Of sunshine’s morning glow

A cricket chirping out his song

A mongoose stalking snakes

A little thought, you can’t go wrong

And that is all it takes

Yes one day this will all come true

The choice will be your own

A pretty girl with eyes of blue

May keep you as her phone

Yes boys are boys and girls are girls

Some crew cut, some are curled

But soon enough distinction swirls

For it’s a changeling world

I know if had but the means

And if no one could meddle

I’d like to be an English Queen’s

Own personal tea kettle

Attila The Hun

A Hungarian economist, Attila Szalay-Berzeviczy, has declared the Euro dead, and its death may very well lead to the break-up of the European Union and world-wide financial collapse. And what will happen next? Will Europe be visited by another Hun named Attila? Will war and famine return? Or will the Europeans try to stick Uncle Sam with the tab? Stay tuned.

Attila was not such a bad guy at heart

He’s gotten a bad press, I know

And yes he tore all northern Italy apart

But stopped when he got to the Po

And thus will the current black crisis evolve

The Huns will just run out of steam

The Greek credit woes are not hard to resolve

Just run ‘round in circles and scream

Just lay down and sob and cry help me I’m dead

For panic will cure the world’s ills

And when it’s all over just raise up your head

And stick Uncle Sam with the bills

Hate Speech

In Australia, black Aboriginal people are accorded the same victim status accorded African-Americans in the United States, and thus entitled to benefits from the public treasury. A journalist named Andrew Bolt wrote two exposes in which he showed that whites were gaming the entitlement system by claiming to be black, and for publishing the truth, an Australian judge ruled that Bolt had committed hate speech by breaching national race laws, the judge claiming the articles humiliated black aborigines. It does not matter if what you say is true, what matters is the presumed hurt feelings of a victim class of people.

Black fella, white fella, brown fella, yella

Are all the same under the law

Except when the Left says the black’s Cinderella

And there’s a line that we must draw

The Left still proclaims that our speech is still free

Except when it’s hateful of course

The Left says that hateful is what offends me

And worse when you don’t show remorse

And you should be grateful that we run the show

We keep you from doing a wrong

For we of the Left are your betters you know

And that’s just the name of that song

The Waterfall

Europe is now facing a debt crisis so severe as to imperil the entire global financial structure, and they don’t know what to do about it. An agreement was reached in July to take a partial hit on the Greek default and try to manage the consequences, but now there are those who want to borrow more money to pay back the previous money they borrowed and cannot repay. Christine LaGarde, the Managing Dirctor of the International Monetary Fund, insists they stick to the July agreement, but there is no consensus. What will they do? Greece will likely default on October 15, and if they do Europe and the world will be standing with their backs to a waterfall and a T-Rex about to devour them.

Christine LaGarde

Is trying hard

To not hurt peoples’ feelings

She said let’s try

What last July

We said about debt dealings

Ah no said those

Who while morose

See not a sticky wicket

While others say

The USA

Upon them we can stick it

It’s Europe’s call

But waterfall

Now looks to be the winner

And one expects

That old T-Rex

Will soon be having dinner
