A Very Large Poorhouse

The Senate is about to raise the debt ceiling above 12.1 trillion dollars ($12,100,000,000,000.00) in order to avoid defaulting on the country’s obligations by mid-October. The ceiling has already been hiked three times in the past two years, with no end in sight, thanks to the Obama administration’s profligate spending policies that have resulted in massive deficits far exceeding the profligate spending of previous administrations. Where will it end? Is there a poorhouse somewhere big enough for 300 million people? Yes there is. It is called the United States.

Can anyone recall the day

When debt was fairly low

When a hundred billion was the limit for

All that they would have to pay

To run the whole damn show

Not excluding the expensive bill for war

And now we’re up to thirteen trill

And counting more to come

So why not write a check and leave it blank

Amount be left for pols to fill

Why not, they think we’re dumb

To keep on filling up their piggy bank

You wonder why this country has

A debt ceiling at all

No one has ever paid for their misdeeds

They chuckle in the corner as

The tax man comes to call

They treat the money like so many beads

I say we take the ceiling down

Be open to the sky

Just let the money flow into their hands

We follow every tootlin’ clown

Who pied’s the piper by

And march on down the street behind their bands

The Lady Of The Camellias

In Salon, Camille Paglia laments that it may be too late for her beloved President Obama to prevent his presidency from becoming a debacle, a condition she believes was brought about by the blindness to reality that obtains in much of the Left’s groupthink. She blames the coming demise of the Obama presidency on his advisers and consultants, but never on him. Camille Paglia is a brave woman to point out the failures of the Left. They don’t like it, and punish those who dare to question the radical left-wing orthodoxy. Do not be surprised to see Camille Paglia savaged by her former friends. Watch yourself, toots.

Ah, Camille, don’t step on toes

Please keep your profile low

The Left knows how to handle those

Who dare to let them know

That they are not the angel’s breath

That heaven from on high

Sent down to cause the bourgeois death

That they all think is nigh

What do they think of you, Camille?

They think of you as kept

A woman pere Dumas could feel

Was free to fly, except

She could not speak her mind at all

She could not say a word

She’s at her master’s beck and call

A painted, sainted bird

Camellias bloom, camellias die

The Left is always here

And that dear girl’s the reason why

You have a right to fear

The people now you think you know

The people of the hive

Pray look behind you for the blow

And you may stay alive

Civil Whites

Pajamas Media reports on the Justice Department’s refusal to cooperate with the US Civil Rights Commission’s investigation into why it (the Justice Department) refused to prosecute Black Panther thugs who threatened and intimidated white Philadelphia voters in a polling place. The Commission sent a letter directly to Attorney General Eric Holder demanding records, and were promptly stiffed by the Justice Department. The Civil Rights Commission, which is statutorily commanded to investigate violations of civil rights, has in effect been told by the Justice Department that only civil rights violations committed against blacks by whites will be prosecuted.

Now you should know my civil right

Is trumping yours ‘cause I’m not white

That’s how it is and how it’s gonna be

Attorney General is not blind

He sees that rights flow to one kind

Of people and those people look like me

So don’t you go complaining now

That black men with some guns somehow

Were seen to be intimidating those

Who chose to vote for someone who

We do not like and chose to queue

And vote for oefays pig latin for foes

We run this country and besides

Now we’re the ones who take the rides

Upon the carousel with the brass ring

If you don’t like it you can leave

And if you do I sure won’t grieve

“Cause when you go we’ll make Obama king

How Dare You Look Behind The Curtain

The Obama administration is gearing up to launch a counter-attack on the Tea Party folk, and anyone else who does not see the wisdom and sacramental nature of the Obama program to socialize the country. As we speak, minions are fanning out across the country, screaming and screeching, convinced that if they but scream and screech loud enough and often enough the American public will come to their senses and embrace the Sacred Truth as espoused by the Anointed One, President Barack Hussein Obama. They hoodwinked the country in November of 2008, let us see if they can hoodwink us again.

The Yalie man in just pressed suit

Declares the question is now moot

The game is won we just don’t know the score

The President has made his bones

By naming truther nut Van Jones

To be the front man for the green scam store

Now Jones is gone and for his pains

The president can make no gains

With terroristic people who shout No!

To everything the Prez can try

To shake this country out to dry

And listen not to what their betters know

Those jobless figures now it seems

Are just one of the rightwing schemes

To make the stimulation seem inept

A trillion here a trillion there

We can’t see why the folks would care

That we pulled that one off while people slept

The VP says that jobs were saved

With bridges built and roadways paved

And anyway the numbers just don’t lie

And Mr. Gibbs just smiles and says

We have a most enchanting Prez

Who faced with No! will do it on the sly

Michael, Meet Vladimir

Michael Moore’s new movie calls for the destruction of capitalism, and by definition, of the United States. Michael Moore should meet Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, who knew what to do with useful idiots whose usefulness was at an end. The question is, is Michael Moore part of a larger leftist plan? I don’t think so; the Left has no plan, only feelings. Like the hive, they support one another even though there may be little awareness of the others in the hive. Think about it – seemingly mindless left-wing excesses like cap and trade, the acquisition of the automobile and banking industry by the Federal government, the debasement of the currency by the trillions of dollars of debt rung up by the Obama administration through the stimulus bills and deficit budgets to the point where the Chinese and others are no longer going to finance our debt and are calling for another world currency to supplant the dollar, and lastly, but not at all leastly, the government’s efforts to take over the health care system, one seventh of the nation’s economy. Is all this part of a long term, carefully thought out plan? I don’t believe so. It’s what happens spontaneously when the Left gains control. Give the Left power and we all start careening down the rain-swept gutter in a little boy’s paper boat.

Like paper boats careening in the gutter

Rain-swept toward the beck’ning sewer

The Left clings to its mindless clutter

Of old grim thoughts of something newer

They cry Democracy and Freedom

They understand it’s all a lie

They think we’re Dylan’s Tweedle-dee dumb

They’ll build the gulag’s where we’ll die

The movie men believe in heaven

Believe that heaven loves its stars

They think they’ll always roll a seven

They think they’ll be the lucky czars

They think it’s fine that others be killed

And think it surely won’t be them

Now silent killing fields are soon filled

With all the lefty crème de crème

How can they not know recent history

They’ve heard of Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot

The rain-swept gutter is no mystery

It leads to sewers like as not

The Chicago Way

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Christopher Kelly died Saturday of an overdose of aspirin. The 51 year old Kelly was a fund-raiser for former Governor Rod Blagojevich, and was apparently Blagojevich’s “go-to” guy. Kelly, who was being pressured to cooperate with federal prosecutors in the criminal investigation of Blagojevich, had been indicted on three separate federal cases, but had repeatedly refused to cooperate on the Blagojevich investigation. There seems to be some confusion about the scene of his demise, some stories saying he was found by his girlfriend in a lumber yard and who drove him to a hospital and others saying he was found by his family at home. I suppose we shall know eventually, but one thing about the sudden and unexpected death of Christopher Kelly is clear: Blagojevich and his cronies can undoubtedly breathe a bit easier about now. Of course this very convenient death raises the question of just how unexpected was it, and how easy is it to commit suicide by aspirin. Kelly apparently lived by his own personal honor code of loyalty. Did someone see that that loyalty would not be compromised?

Oh cynical minds to think such ill

Of good men such as Kelly

It looks suspicious yes, but still

To say that it looks smelly

Would be demeaning to the kind

Of guys who run Chicago

He would have lived could girlfriend find

His pal Dr. Zhivago

I understand his ward boss friends

At Mass the other morning

Decided that the means and ends

Should come with little warning

The site they chose, a lumber yard

A place no DA spy would

Detect a thing no mat how hard

He looked among the plywood

And so ‘twas done and done quite well

The Guv and all his cronies

Can sit and smile and say of Kell

The man sure had cajones

Tea Party

The Daily Mail Online reports 2 million people marched on Washington DC on Saturday, September 12th, to protest President Obama’s radical left wing health care plan, and even if the number were only half that it would still be the largest tea party ever assembled. Tea Parties are an honest expression of the feelings of real people, working people, people with families who have seen the cynical way in which the Political Class disdains everything they stand for, how the Political Class thinks paying taxes are for the little people. The Tea Party people see trillions and trillions in debt stretching far into the future, they see a President who surrounds himself with haters like Bill Ayers, Van Jones and The Reverend Wright, a president who seems intent on turning the country into a socialist paradise that no one voted for, a government of radical left wing czars led by a radical left wing President. The question is, how long before the Tea Parties turn into a legitimate tax revolt? How long before the Tea Parties turn into a legitimate third political party? We already have the name: the Tea Party. And if a viable third party emerges, who will control it? “A Tea Party!” Alice cried.  “How lovely!” We know who the mad haters are, but who’s the mad hatter?

A trillion here, a trillion there

A lot, but then who’s counting

But there are those of us who care

With indignation mounting

A Tea Party is what we need

To show the folks in power

That trillions aren’t chicken feed

And we aint gonna cower

In face of rampant spending debt

With next to come inflation

You run the place and that we get

But you are not the nation

We’re sick of all the phony guys

Who smile and steal our money

Who lie and cheat with quel surprise

Wet lips just dripping honey

The Treasury Sec he pays no tax

But gets confirmed no problem

He says the IRS is lax

But he’ll fix what is hobblin’ ‘em

Committee Chair who writes the rules

A man named Charley Rangle

Says rules are just for silly fools

Ya gotta have an angle

It’s getting so a man who pays

His tax on time while smiling

Must look askance at one who says

It’s not for me, this filing

You take our dough and give it to

Your friends and your supporters

To union guys and not a few

Of bankers and reporters

You plan to break us, but of course,

By turning all to debtors

And then you’ll ride in on your horse

Accompanied by our betters

While you, our president for life

Then paint the White House duller

Because el presidente’s wife

Just doesn’t like the color

Let’s organize, take our land back

The scum there need a jailin’

And vote out every left wing hack

And vote in Sarah Palin

The Day After

There was no post yesterday remembering the events of September 11, 2001, because obviously nothing happened on that day. The Democrats are now in power, and they and a Democratic president are pleased that whatever it was that was supposed by some to have happened on that day is now no longer cluttering up the official memory banks. We can all relax. Nothing to see here, move along. There are no Muslim fanatics trying to kill us. How could there be? They are, after all, disciples of the religion of peace. Let’s all go back to sleep, for we have more important things to do than worry about some peaceful young men in far away lands. Things like turning the United States into Mexico or Argentina. Things like destroying the finest healthcare system in the world in order to grow the power of the Left. No, nothing happened on September 11, 2001, for if there had been it surely would have been remarked upon.

El President, the smooth man said

I have the proclamation

The one in which the honored dead

Again remind the nation

Of that sad, sad September day

Of Muslims’ fierce attack

And how we all joined hands to pray

That they would not be back

Dear Rahm I know not what you mean

El Presidente sighed

For nothing happened at that scene

And no one really died

‘Twas all a ploy by that mad Bush

To get the people cowed

And bomb the folks of Hindu Kush

To make himself feel proud

But I will never fall for such

A dismal, dirty lie

And I have always said as much

And will till day I die

Now back to work we’ve things to do

The country’s in our hands

We’ve time to turn into Peru

Just like those other lands

Our mission’s clear dear brother Rahm

Tomorrow is the twelfth

Iran is closing on the bomb

And we must drink their health

Ah no dear Rahm, I make no speech

To honor our war dead

For doesn’t Holy Koran teach

That some things be unsaid?

I Hear The Train A’comin’

Rahm Emmanuel has famously said, “Never let a crisis go to waste,” a philosophy that led to trillion dollar stimulus packages and the government takeover of the banking and automobile industries. Now both Emmanuel and President Obama are scurrying around for another crisis they can use, knowing they need a crisis to revive the now dead socialist health reform package Obama is trying to sell to a country increasingly in opposition to his radical left wing moves. Emmanuel and Obama are fully aware that a for now mostly quiet Tea Party revolution among the middle class is brewing, principally over Obama’s proposed healthcare plans, and if left unchecked could result in a larger revolt against taxes and against the Democratic party itself. They are correct. Sarah Palin has energized the middle class, and a quiet revolution is slowly grinding down the Obama plan to turn the United States into a socialist paradise. Johnny Cash heard the train a-comin’, and so do Rahm and Barack.

I hear the train a-comin’

She’s rumblin’ down the track

I hear the rails a-hummin’

Rahm, the crowd’s on the attack

We need a crisis sure enough

We need one right away

They say that when the going’s tough

Well, you know what they say

I have a plan, your majesty

Mr. President I mean

To squelch Tea Party travesty

And drive them from the scene

We organize a corps of yoots

Young people don’t you know

The kind of guys don’t give two hoots

So long’s you show the dough

We set upon them with our fists

And axe handles as well

We know their names, we have our lists

We give them merry hell

The crisis then becomes at once

A crisis we can cure

We’ll have our dog and one that hunts

We’re back on top for sure

There is one thing, el president

That stops us from clear sailin’

It’s that Alaska resident

That goddamned Sarah Palin

She’s got the folks all in a twist

They don’t like what we’re doing

I think they just like to resist

I think they just like booing

Ah no dear Rahm it’s more than that

I hear it in the distance

The train’s on time, in nothing flat

We’re out on the insistence

Of people who don’t know or care

That we’re the ones who guide them

They can’t believe that we are there

To praise them or to chide them

I hear the train a-comin’, Rahm

A-rumblin’d down the track

I hear the rails a-hummin’, Rahm

And we ain’t coming back

Abdul Abulbul Amir

Richard Fernandez at the Belmont Club equates the President’s fight for socialized medicine with the comic song fight to the death between the Russian Hussar Ivan Skavinsky Skavar and the Turkish champion Abdul Abulbul Amir. The song is a putdown of the Russo-Turkish war of 1877, and is little heard or played today, and more’s the pity. Verse-afire has created an updated version, which we offer below. Click here to listen to the original 1927 version by Frank Crumit.

Miss Pelosi has said that she now has the votes

The Congress has moved very far

The Blue Dogs of course will be filled with remorse

Not so I. Skavinsky Skavar

For Ivan has teamed with the Democrat side

In spite of the disdainful sneer

From that bearded old man with the unnatural tan

His foeman Abulbul Amir

The House vote was close it came down in the end

To a Blue Dog from Tennessee bar

Who with faltering gait cast his vote very late

Hurried on by Skavinsky Skavar

It was then that the victors’ huzzahs turned to groans

As a fierce man tamped down the last cheer

And faced down the lout who had ended the bout

It was Abdul Abulbul Amir

The Sergeant-At-Arms cried his vote has been cast

It cannot be changed or denied

Then Ivan stepped in with a devilish grin

And strangled Abdul till he cried

They wrestled all night on the floor of the House

Pelosi first hung back in fear

Then with fierce flashing eyes she stabbed both of the thighs

Of Abdul Abulbul Amir

So the healthcare was passed by that one single vote

And the next day they named a new czar

Yes they plied him with wealth and they toasted the health

Of Ivan Skavinsky Skavar

But the story’s not over there’s more still to come

It will shock you and call forth a tear

Of the terrible fate that befell the once great

Abdul Abulbul Amir

He ran for the Congress himself in the Fall

He canvassed his district by car

He arrived in DC quite embarrassed to see

Speaker Ivan Skavinsky Skavar
