The Great Game

The Obama administration is currently anguishing over whether or not to send more troops to Afghanistan. The Generals want more troops, the left wing of the Democratic party wants out, and Obama himself seems entirely unclear on what he wants to do. The situation on the ground is not favorable to US interests: the Taliban enjoy the support of a large part of the population, and seem to have no difficulty in enlisting martyrs for suicide missions. We kill 100 Taliban and Taliban supporters for every American killed, but they can take the casualties and we cannot, and for one simple reason: no one has satisfactorily explained why we should be there taking casualties in the first place. Certainly not a single American life is worth trying to bring a stone age culture into the 21st century, particularly when that stone age culture is happy where they are. And so President Obama is in a dilemma. He spent years undermining the war in Iraq while saying we should be in Afghanistan, the good war, and now he’s there and finds it is not so good after all. But then he never did think it was a good war, it was just a stick with which to beat George Bush.

Obama claims that it was Bush

Who bogged us down in Hindu Kush

Not understanding that it’s just a game

Between the Paki ISI

And all the other little fry

Who cares when you’ve got Georgie Bush to blame

Obama says we should have been

Engaged in a war we could win

Instead of messing up in old Iraq

A war Obama says was wrong

And claims he was right all along

To go after bin Laden and his claque

So now he wants to put our guys

Into a place where most supplies

Must come by road and if its cut what then?

And yes we know the Taliban

Still rule the roads and so they can

Decide not just the where but also when

To close the road through Pakistan

To all our guys in far Afghan

And then we’ll say in closin’ au revoir

To Obie’s foolish thought that he

Could talk his way to victory

Just hope it’s not a Chosin reservoir

The Taliban – All Lawyered Up

McClatchy reports on US Marines in Afghanistan pinned down by the Taliban in a mountainside village ambush, where US commanders were not permitted to bring down the full weight of military support because there were civilians present, civilians who aided the Taliban in the ambush.

The ROE

Is from DC

So if we hurt a guy

Dressed in a robe

There’ll be a probe

And lawyers then will cry

That we should not

Return a shot

With civvies in the way

And if we do

Then you know who

Will make the culprits pay

Obama says

And he’s the prez

That battles should be fought

With hands tied twice

And smiling nice

‘Cause that’s what he’s been taught

There’s no excuse

For the caboose

To wag the engineer

And Taliban

Will to a man

Have naught at all to fear

Four Marines were killed in that ambush because the Rules of Engagement say you cannot shoot if there are civilians present, so naturally the Taliban choose to fight where there are civilians. We ask our men to fight and tie their hands. Our men deserve better than having their lives dependent on a lawyer.

From the hells of dark Fallujah

To the sores of Kandahar

They fight our nation’s battles

For each stripe and every star

They fight for right and freedom

For they know what freedom means

They’re the guys who keep us safe from harm

The United States Marines!

A Worse Jimmy Carter

President Obama said a number of things over the weekend in his Sunday talk show blitz and elsewhere, including 1) Requiring health insurance is not a tax increase; 2) I didn’t know Acorn was getting a whole lot of federal money; 3) Afghanistan strategy is still a work in progress; and 4) Missile defense decision was not about Russia.

Let’s take them one by one:

Requiring health insurance is not a tax increase. We will all be paying more for health insurance than we’re paying now, and while technically this may not be a tax increase in that the money will not be going directly to the federal treasury but to insurance companies, it’s still money out of pocket, so the effect is the same. Obama knows this is the first step toward a single payer system, at which point the money will be going directly to the federal treasury, and therefore a tax. Kind of like “It depends on what the meaning of is is”.

I didn’t know Acorn was getting a whole lot of federal money. Very nice parsing. He didn’t say he didn’t know Acorn was getting federal money, he said he didn’t know how much. Can anyone believe he doesn’t know all there is to know about Acorn, having worked side by side with them for twenty years?

Afghanistan strategy is still a work in progress. He is going to pull out and declare victory, even though during the campaign he stated forcefully that it was a disgrace that the Bush administration had not rounded up bin Laden and his fellow terrorists, declaring getting them was the first thing he was going to do as president. Now it seems not as important as prosecuting and destroying the CIA.

Missile defense decision was not about Russia. Of course it wasn’t. Russian threats had nothing to do with it. I believe him on this one. The decision not to deploy the missile shield in Poland and the Czech Republic was designed to alienate our allies and drive them back into the Russian orbit. All part of a larger plan to diminish the United States, the great oppressor in the eyes of community organizers everywhere.

Who is Obama and what does he want

Where is he going and why

Is it fourth down, is he going to punt

Or will he just sit down and cry

We don’t know the answer to what he is for

Or what he is firmly against

We do know he’s practically given the store

To people who should be defensed

Is giving up missiles protecting our land

A step in direction we like

And what about once or twice taking a stand

And not shrink from what comes down the pike

He says forced insurance is not a new tax

And kneeling to Putin is out

He says as for Acorn I don’t know the facts

But somehow I’m starting to doubt

With deficits soaring, inflation ahead

We might have to think about barter

And after just eight months I think could be said

We’ve elected a worse Jimmy Carter

An Outgoing Tide

Rasmussen says 55% of Americans oppose President Obama’s health care plan, so Obama has given us a full day’s full court press on five Sunday talks shows; ABC’s This Week, CBS’s Face the Nation, NBC’s Meet the Press, CNN’s State of the Nation, and Univision’s Al Punto with Jorge Ramos. Notably absent from the list is Fox News Sunday, which the White House excluded because they say the people who watch Fox News are racist bigots, and Al Jazeera because the people who watch Al Jazeera are with them anyway. Why the full court press? Why the urgency? Because Obama knows the tide is running out, both on his socialist healthcare plan and on his presidency as more and more people come to see what he is, and they don’t like what they see. In any event, there will be vast numbers who don’t tune in because they’ve heard it all several hundred times, and hearing it one more time will not change the smell of rotten fish. Of course, there may be those who watch because they think the show is about something else.

A man I know sat glued to set

He missed his Sunday dinner

When asked he said he liked to get

On the side of the winner

He said he was a football fan

And never missed a season

He cared not if they threw or ran

‘Twas winning that was pleasin’

He said he loved his favorite team

His favorite color crimson

He said that winning made him beam

But losing, it was grim son

So that was why he sat all day

A-thinking Alabama

And found that he’d mis-heard them say

It was all day all Obama

A Very Large Poorhouse

The Senate is about to raise the debt ceiling above 12.1 trillion dollars ($12,100,000,000,000.00) in order to avoid defaulting on the country’s obligations by mid-October. The ceiling has already been hiked three times in the past two years, with no end in sight, thanks to the Obama administration’s profligate spending policies that have resulted in massive deficits far exceeding the profligate spending of previous administrations. Where will it end? Is there a poorhouse somewhere big enough for 300 million people? Yes there is. It is called the United States.

Can anyone recall the day

When debt was fairly low

When a hundred billion was the limit for

All that they would have to pay

To run the whole damn show

Not excluding the expensive bill for war

And now we’re up to thirteen trill

And counting more to come

So why not write a check and leave it blank

Amount be left for pols to fill

Why not, they think we’re dumb

To keep on filling up their piggy bank

You wonder why this country has

A debt ceiling at all

No one has ever paid for their misdeeds

They chuckle in the corner as

The tax man comes to call

They treat the money like so many beads

I say we take the ceiling down

Be open to the sky

Just let the money flow into their hands

We follow every tootlin’ clown

Who pied’s the piper by

And march on down the street behind their bands

The Lady Of The Camellias

In Salon, Camille Paglia laments that it may be too late for her beloved President Obama to prevent his presidency from becoming a debacle, a condition she believes was brought about by the blindness to reality that obtains in much of the Left’s groupthink. She blames the coming demise of the Obama presidency on his advisers and consultants, but never on him. Camille Paglia is a brave woman to point out the failures of the Left. They don’t like it, and punish those who dare to question the radical left-wing orthodoxy. Do not be surprised to see Camille Paglia savaged by her former friends. Watch yourself, toots.

Ah, Camille, don’t step on toes

Please keep your profile low

The Left knows how to handle those

Who dare to let them know

That they are not the angel’s breath

That heaven from on high

Sent down to cause the bourgeois death

That they all think is nigh

What do they think of you, Camille?

They think of you as kept

A woman pere Dumas could feel

Was free to fly, except

She could not speak her mind at all

She could not say a word

She’s at her master’s beck and call

A painted, sainted bird

Camellias bloom, camellias die

The Left is always here

And that dear girl’s the reason why

You have a right to fear

The people now you think you know

The people of the hive

Pray look behind you for the blow

And you may stay alive

Civil Whites

Pajamas Media reports on the Justice Department’s refusal to cooperate with the US Civil Rights Commission’s investigation into why it (the Justice Department) refused to prosecute Black Panther thugs who threatened and intimidated white Philadelphia voters in a polling place. The Commission sent a letter directly to Attorney General Eric Holder demanding records, and were promptly stiffed by the Justice Department. The Civil Rights Commission, which is statutorily commanded to investigate violations of civil rights, has in effect been told by the Justice Department that only civil rights violations committed against blacks by whites will be prosecuted.

Now you should know my civil right

Is trumping yours ‘cause I’m not white

That’s how it is and how it’s gonna be

Attorney General is not blind

He sees that rights flow to one kind

Of people and those people look like me

So don’t you go complaining now

That black men with some guns somehow

Were seen to be intimidating those

Who chose to vote for someone who

We do not like and chose to queue

And vote for oefays pig latin for foes

We run this country and besides

Now we’re the ones who take the rides

Upon the carousel with the brass ring

If you don’t like it you can leave

And if you do I sure won’t grieve

“Cause when you go we’ll make Obama king

How Dare You Look Behind The Curtain

The Obama administration is gearing up to launch a counter-attack on the Tea Party folk, and anyone else who does not see the wisdom and sacramental nature of the Obama program to socialize the country. As we speak, minions are fanning out across the country, screaming and screeching, convinced that if they but scream and screech loud enough and often enough the American public will come to their senses and embrace the Sacred Truth as espoused by the Anointed One, President Barack Hussein Obama. They hoodwinked the country in November of 2008, let us see if they can hoodwink us again.

The Yalie man in just pressed suit

Declares the question is now moot

The game is won we just don’t know the score

The President has made his bones

By naming truther nut Van Jones

To be the front man for the green scam store

Now Jones is gone and for his pains

The president can make no gains

With terroristic people who shout No!

To everything the Prez can try

To shake this country out to dry

And listen not to what their betters know

Those jobless figures now it seems

Are just one of the rightwing schemes

To make the stimulation seem inept

A trillion here a trillion there

We can’t see why the folks would care

That we pulled that one off while people slept

The VP says that jobs were saved

With bridges built and roadways paved

And anyway the numbers just don’t lie

And Mr. Gibbs just smiles and says

We have a most enchanting Prez

Who faced with No! will do it on the sly

Michael, Meet Vladimir

Michael Moore’s new movie calls for the destruction of capitalism, and by definition, of the United States. Michael Moore should meet Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, who knew what to do with useful idiots whose usefulness was at an end. The question is, is Michael Moore part of a larger leftist plan? I don’t think so; the Left has no plan, only feelings. Like the hive, they support one another even though there may be little awareness of the others in the hive. Think about it – seemingly mindless left-wing excesses like cap and trade, the acquisition of the automobile and banking industry by the Federal government, the debasement of the currency by the trillions of dollars of debt rung up by the Obama administration through the stimulus bills and deficit budgets to the point where the Chinese and others are no longer going to finance our debt and are calling for another world currency to supplant the dollar, and lastly, but not at all leastly, the government’s efforts to take over the health care system, one seventh of the nation’s economy. Is all this part of a long term, carefully thought out plan? I don’t believe so. It’s what happens spontaneously when the Left gains control. Give the Left power and we all start careening down the rain-swept gutter in a little boy’s paper boat.

Like paper boats careening in the gutter

Rain-swept toward the beck’ning sewer

The Left clings to its mindless clutter

Of old grim thoughts of something newer

They cry Democracy and Freedom

They understand it’s all a lie

They think we’re Dylan’s Tweedle-dee dumb

They’ll build the gulag’s where we’ll die

The movie men believe in heaven

Believe that heaven loves its stars

They think they’ll always roll a seven

They think they’ll be the lucky czars

They think it’s fine that others be killed

And think it surely won’t be them

Now silent killing fields are soon filled

With all the lefty crème de crème

How can they not know recent history

They’ve heard of Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot

The rain-swept gutter is no mystery

It leads to sewers like as not

The Chicago Way

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Christopher Kelly died Saturday of an overdose of aspirin. The 51 year old Kelly was a fund-raiser for former Governor Rod Blagojevich, and was apparently Blagojevich’s “go-to” guy. Kelly, who was being pressured to cooperate with federal prosecutors in the criminal investigation of Blagojevich, had been indicted on three separate federal cases, but had repeatedly refused to cooperate on the Blagojevich investigation. There seems to be some confusion about the scene of his demise, some stories saying he was found by his girlfriend in a lumber yard and who drove him to a hospital and others saying he was found by his family at home. I suppose we shall know eventually, but one thing about the sudden and unexpected death of Christopher Kelly is clear: Blagojevich and his cronies can undoubtedly breathe a bit easier about now. Of course this very convenient death raises the question of just how unexpected was it, and how easy is it to commit suicide by aspirin. Kelly apparently lived by his own personal honor code of loyalty. Did someone see that that loyalty would not be compromised?

Oh cynical minds to think such ill

Of good men such as Kelly

It looks suspicious yes, but still

To say that it looks smelly

Would be demeaning to the kind

Of guys who run Chicago

He would have lived could girlfriend find

His pal Dr. Zhivago

I understand his ward boss friends

At Mass the other morning

Decided that the means and ends

Should come with little warning

The site they chose, a lumber yard

A place no DA spy would

Detect a thing no mat how hard

He looked among the plywood

And so ‘twas done and done quite well

The Guv and all his cronies

Can sit and smile and say of Kell

The man sure had cajones
